About The BGDAThe BGDA Inc (Brisbane Girls Debating Association Incorporated) runs an annual competition for female debaters in years 9 - 12 attending schools in the wider Brisbane area. The purpose of the competition is to give young female debaters the opportunity to improve and gain skills in public speaking, leadership, critical analysis and team work in an inclusive and supportive environment. We acknowledge the structural difficulties that many females face, particularly in debating, and hope to assist their development both within the activity and in their lives more broadly. The competition consists of five rounds of debating and an additional final round held throughout Terms 1 and 2 and hosted at Brisbane Girls Grammar School.
The BGDA initially began between a small number of Brisbane metropolitan schools in 2010 and was formally established in 2012 when the competition expanded to schools throughout Brisbane. Combining the most dedicated and experienced adjudicators with the most innovative methods, we aim to help girls excel in debating and beyond. We are proud to have QUT School Of Business as our continuing Exclusive Academic Partner contributing financial assistance and providing an excellent selection of individual and team prizes including scholarships to study Business at QUT. This assistance is aimed at improving the academic outcomes for students well beyond their immediate participation in the BGDA.
