Senior Excellence Day 2026
With Queensland Debating State Team trials right around the corner, it is BGDA’s pleasure to invite students to BGDA’s Senior Excellence Day 2026 on 24 October 2026!
Senior Excellence Day is a great opportunity for senior students to brush up on their debating skills during the off-season and to get in some last-minute training before the State Team trials if they are intending on trialling. All students who are BGDA eligible in Years 9 - 11 are welcome to register (ie. students who will be grade 10 - 12 in the 2027 debating season).
This year, we are incredibly excited to have Harry Rae returning to run training for Senior Excellence Day. Harry has previous experience captaining the Queensland State Team to victory in the 2022 National Schools Debating Championship (NSDC) and has also been a member of the Australian Debating Team for the 2022 World Schools Debating Championship (WSDC). Harry has also been a coach for the Queensland State Team in previous years. With his extensive experience also adjudicating for the BGDA and QDU, he is sure to be an incredible trainer for the girls anticipating State Team Trials this year.
I should also note that Senior Excellence Day is an incredible opportunity for all senior debaters - not just students intending on trialling for the State team. The day will be incredibly fun and educational for all students involved and is a great opportunity for some pre-emptive debating practice for the 2026 season. The day involves two debates adjudicated by experienced senior adjudicators with the opportunity for students to get individual feedback.
In regards to scheduling, the day will run from 9am to 3:30pm with registration/arrival at 8:45am. The day will commence with training by Harry Rae and then will continue with two practice debates for students to hone their skills and receive critical feedback from a great line up of adjudicators. We are incredibly grateful to Brisbane Girls Grammar School for hosting Senior Excellence Day this year.
