Development Day 2021

What is Development Day?

Since 2017, the BGDA has hosted its annual Development Day. This one day debating program is open to all female-identifying students in grades 10-12, even those who do not compete in the Monday Competition. This program was created for three main reasons:

1. To provide students with an opportunity to participate who otherwise would not be able to benefit from the BGDA's programs due to factors such as distance, inability to form a full team of eligible debaters at their school, or time constraints
2. To give students who have never debated before the chance to try out debating in a supportive environment
3. To encourage female debaters to participate in and prepare them for the upcoming Queensland State Debating Team trials, which are typically held the week after Development Day

In the following years, Development Day has grown to be an important event on the Queensland debating calendar that brings together girls from different schools and year levels to socialise, learn from each other, and share in a love of debating. Typically Development Day consists of three debates with adjudications given in a workshop format. Registration for the event is totally free, with the BGDA's generous sponsors covering the costs of all meals and adjudications.

2021 Information

Development Day will be held on Sunday 7th February 2021. Registration for Development 2021 can be completed individually here. Development Day will consist of two debates which are suitable for all skill levels and a final debate conducted in Senior A format for more advanced speakers. While it is anticipated that the majority of students in grade 10 and 11 will only elect to participate in debates 1 and 2,  they are very welcome to challenge themselves to participate in debate 3 or to stay and watch the older students.
